I’m not typically in the business of posting college football plays on a Monday when the action took place on Saturday, but this complete abomination of a play makes this a special case. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs were getting roughed up by Mississippi State 57-14 when they found themselves on their own 7-yard line in the 4th quarter on 2nd and Goal. What happened next is probably in the top 3 worst college football plays in history.
When the dust had settled, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs were facing a 3rd-and-Goal from 93-yards away. A 3rd-and-93 that was also a 3rd-and-Goal. I highly doubt we’ll see anything like this again for a very long time.
I can’t help but wonder who had to take the stats sheet 85+ yard loss on that play? That will completely nuke your stats line for the entire day, a loss of more than 80 yards. Actually, I just looked it up and ESPN has Louisiana Tech team listed as ‘-87.0’ under rushing yards on the Box Score, so it looks like the entire team took an L on that play.
A play like that will also deflate your soul and ego for the rest of the 2017/2018 college football season if you think about it for too long. The best thing those Louisiana Tech players can do is try and completely block that play from their memories and move on. (h/t S.I. College Football)
